KT Varghese is a small scale farmer whose main crop is Pepper. During the year 1989 and 1995 his crops suffered extensive damage due to the disease quick wilt which left him with only few surviving plants in his whole farm. But his wife encouraged him to secure and propagate those few surviving plants. This was a turning point as those plants slowly developed into a disease resistant variety of pepper with a stable yield than the local varieties available. Mr. Varghese has a heritage of practicing organic farming for the last 20 years and is a certified organic farmer for the past 10 years. Mr. Varghese’s vision is to propagate this unique species to farmers across the country, which he thinks would uplift the quality and quantity of pepper yield per acre.
